Getting Started

Tips for Success

The Rookies is your space to connect, create, and grow alongside other aspiring artists. Here are some practical tips to help you make the most of your journey:

1. Start Where You Are—Everyone’s on Their Own Path

The Rookies is a community for non-professional artists, so don’t worry if you’re just beginning. It’s completely normal to feel a little intimidated, but remember that everyone here started somewhere. Share what you’re working on and don’t hold back—that’s how you improve and find your creative voice.

2. Share Your Progress, Not Just the Finished Pieces

Upload projects you’re working on, even if they’re a work-in-progress. If you have older work that you’re proud of, share that too! Showing your journey not only lets you see your own progress over time but also invites helpful feedback from other members.

3. Get Involved and Engage with Others’ Work

Take a look around at the projects and contest entries that others are sharing. Don’t just observe—jump in, leave comments, and offer genuine encouragement. Giving feedback and connecting with others is a powerful way to learn, make friends, and build a reputation within the community.

When you like a project or contest entry, click the High-Five button to show your appreciation!

4. Join the Discussion on Discord

Our Discord server is a welcoming space where you can connect with other members in real-time. Introduce yourself, ask questions, and join conversations around art, software, and industry trends. No question is too basic, and you’ll find lots of members who are ready to offer advice and share their insights.

5. Take Advantage of Rookies Learning

Rookies Learning is packed with free courses that cover a variety of industries and software skills. Use this resource to explore new fields, try out industry-standard tools, and learn from professionals. It’s a valuable way to build skills at your own pace and dive into what interests you.

6. Challenge Yourself with Contests and Challenges

Participating in a contest or challenge can push your creativity in new directions. Working to a brief and competing alongside others can be incredibly motivating and can lead to big breakthroughs in your work. Plus, you might just earn some recognition and level up your skills along the way.
